About
Welcome to Sidehustleblogging.com! I’m Jason, but most of you know me as “Frugal Dad.” I created FrugalDad.com in December 2007 as a way to help others with family finances, and as a way to hold myself accountable with my own spending. Apparently, I struck a chord with others leading a frugal life, and admittedly benefitted from good timing as the financial markets took a dive in 2008. In one year I attracted 5,000 subscribers, and am earning nearly half what I earn working full time.
Why Blog About Blogging?
FrugalDad.com readers often write to ask what “secrets” I can share, or what blogging tips I’ve learned along the way. Well, most of what I have learned has been trial and error (mostly error), but I’m happy to share those lessons learned for others interested in blogging. I’m no expert, but in that first year I read everything I could get my hands on related to blogging, marketing, social media, etc. I managed to retain some of it, and apply it with success.
What Is A Side Hustle?
Long-time FrugalDad.com readers will recognize this one, as I’ve often written about “side hustles” as a way to hedge against a job loss, earn extra income for savings or debt repayment, etc. A side hustle is basically something you start up on your own, apart from your 8-5 job. After years of side hustling by working a variety of part time jobs, mowing lawns and writing freelance articles, I decided I would give blogging a try, though I didn’t fully understand monetization.
I hope you’ll join me here as we share tips on blogging and all it entails: writing, marketing, communicating, participating in social media. Because I am also a frugal “dad,” I’ll share some scheduling tips for working around a full time job and a wife and two kids (it isn’t easy, but it’s possible).
